Don Benito Art Fest, part of Don Benito PTA's new “school-wide interactives” series, will be held at the Don Benito Auditorium. It celebrates Don Benito’s signature Art Docent program and the many creative ways parent and community volunteers support teachers and students in developing a lifelong love of art and creativity. With 100% student participation from Kindergarten to 5th grade, the event will produce 500 works of art within a single school day. At the Don Benito Art Fest, artists like Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Fernando Botero, Antoni Gaudi, Diego Rivera, and Pablo Picasso will be honored. Each grade will learn about two of the artists and each grade will make an art project, inspired by the work of one of the two featured artists. As members work with the children, they'll be talking about the cultures referenced in their work, Chinese, Roman, Egyptian, Mayan and Incan. The area of the event will be decorated with information about each artist and pictures of his/her art and there just may be a few surprise appearances from the artists themselves, straight out of the canvases of history. It will be a marvelous time for the children, and a great example of many of the great enrichment programs coming out of PUSD. This event was designed by the marvelous Art Docent Coordinator and parent leader Sissy Torres, a resident of Upper Hastings Ranch and it was created completely from scratch. Don Benito PTA have not hosted an event like this in modern Don Benito history so this is a special new learning opportunity for the children. Parents and community can observe the work as it happens; there will be special viewing areas set up in and around the auditorium. For those that can’t attend in person, live updates will be posted on its Instagram (@donbenitopta) and Facebook Page (“Don Benito PTA”), so people can follow them for the latest. Don Benito parents can work with their child’s classroom during the activity as well. Several leaders of the community, Pasadena City Councilman Gene Masuda, PUSD Board Members Scott Phelps, Roy Boulghourjian and Michelle Richardson-Bailey and PUSD staff leadership are slated to attend.
