Pasadena City College Art Gallery

The Pasadena City College Art Gallery will present “Odd Fits: Made from Scratch,” an exhibition of sculptures by artists who make “a compulsion to manipulate” materials palpable in their work, beginning Oct. 9 as part of Pasadena’s Art Night celebration.

“Odd Fits” will showcase internationally and nationally renowned artists Jacqueline Dreager, Sheila Klein, Chris Sauter, and Jason Wilson. Featured works range from a delicate pillar of lace to a customized Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Yolanda McKay, the exhibit’s curator, said, “the artists in this exhibition are involved in ‘fits’ or urges that result in objects, hence the name.”

In 2004, McKay curated an exhibit at the Los Angeles International Airport entitled “Travel Log: scene from LA,” which featured snapshots of places of interest in the Los Angeles area.

“I love having metaphorical imagery that can be interpreted in the exhibit’s subject matter,” said McKay.
McKay, who started this project more than nine months ago, initially wanted a show featuring artists from San Antonio. But after finding some of the pieces were not working together, she decided to switch the theme to a more symbolic abstraction of manipulated objects.

“Once I knew what the show was finally going to be about, I turned toward other artists I’ve known over the years whose works would be well suited in the showcase.”

McKay and featured artist Jason Wilson have been acquaintances for decades. “I remember back when Jason used to play around in my backyard as a little kid.” Through November 19.
