Ellen's Silkscreening, Embroidery and Promotional Products has worked with the Descanso Gardens' Gift Shop in developing a colorful line of tee shirts, hats and other promotional products celebrating the project called "Edible Estates."

Artist Fritz Haeg challenges city dwellers to rethink their idea of what a front yard should be in his newest project. Here he presents two possibilities: a typical lawn and an edible garden.

To celebrate this project and the Gardens' themselves, Ellen's printed bright tees featuring 4 different designs: yellow California Poppies, bright green grass, purple eggplant, and white Ginkgo leaves on a gold background

David Crocker, the Gift Shop manager, says that shirts were manufactured locally by American Apparel in downtown Los Angeles in sweatshop-free facilities.

Ellen's has been in business since 1978.

"We do all work in-house," says owner Ellen Daigle. "[We] pride ourselves on being eco-friendly/eco-conscious."

Numerous local nonprofits contract with Ellen's to produce customized garments and promotional items.

"We have very talented artists, sales associates and screen printers committed to serving you," Daigle says.

Ellen's is located at 1500 Mission Street in South Pasadena. For information, call  (626) 441-4415  or visit www.ellenssilkscreening.com .
