The Arts

Youth Art Month Exhibition

Published on Wednesday, March 5

The current exhibition on view in the Community Room Gallery of The Armory Center for the Arts includes the work of kindergarten through 12th grade students whose teachers are members of California Art Education Association. CAEA sponsors an annual round of shows in honor of Youth Art Month. They begin at the county level and this year will culminate in a trip to New York for state-level winners.

The Armory show includes winning artwork from shows held in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Diego Counties. The pieces were juried again at this level and the winners include students from each of the four counties. The top winner in each of four grade-level categories will go on to the state competition for the opportunity to go to New York with their parent and art teacher as guests of Sargent Art, co-sponsors of the exhibit.

The Armory Center for the Arts is located at 145 N. Raymond Ave., Pasadena. For more information, call 626-792-5101.

The California Art Education Association is a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of art education at all levels in the state of California. CAEA’s purposes are to increase public awareness regarding art education, develop and implement strategies for statewide arts advocacy, inform the membership about current issues in art education, recognize the achievements of art educators and students, advocate an art requirement for graduation from secondary schools, and assist the California State Department of Education with the development and implementation of curriculum materials.
