Fashionable Dress in an Artistic Landmark: The Gamble House, circa 1908
For a limited time, costumed mannequins throughout the house will portray members of the Gamble family, their guests, and household staff at the time the house was completed. Published on Thursday, April 10
David Gamble, heir to the famous American corporation, Proctor & Gamble, built the family’s winter home in Pasadena, and the house remained in the family for three generations. In 1966, the grandchildren made a gift of the house, its furniture, and fittings to the city of Pasadena in joint agreement with USC’s School of Architecture. The Gamble family included Julia Higgins (Mary Gamble’s sister) and their children. Around the world, this craftsman house, a National Historic Landmark, is celebrated for its architectural merit and is known as the finest and most complete example of the work of its architects, Charles and Henry Greene. The exhibit will run from Sunday, April 13 - Sunday, June 8. Docent-led tours will run Thursday - Sunday from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. The Gamble House is located at 4 Westmoreland Place, Pasadena.
