The announcement was made on Friday morning, August 8th at the Eden Garden Bar and Grill (formerly the Holly Street Bar and Grill) in Pasadena. As part of the prize for the winner, Eden Garden proprietor Edward Moriarty presented Mr. Cassidy with a gift certificate for dinner for four at the restaurant. Mr. Cassidy was given a complimentary advertisement in the Chamber Directory courtesy of Ed Burzminski of Atlantic Publishing. Chamber CEO Paul Little presented Mr. Cassidy with a complimentary one year membership in the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Cassidy is a Pasadena native who attended local schools and developed a love of photography at an early age. "My grandfather was an amateur photographer, so I guess I caught the bug from him," Mr. Cassidy said. "I got started taking photography classes at Muir in 1975 and have been taking pictures ever since."
Mr. Cassidy lives in Pasadena and has been an insurance broker in the Pasadena area since 1981. He is active with the Tournament of Roses and is a competitive mountain runner. Mr. Cassidy is the father of two children, Ashley Marie, age 18, and Ryan Thomas, age 14.
"Mr. Cassidy's photograph of the bridge is a wonderful cover image," said Chamber CEO and President Paul Little. "He's captured the romance of Pasadena in a striking and memorable way." Three judges, Amy Futa, Steve Horn and Courtney Little, reviewed the finalists independently and chose Mr. Cassidy's photo as the cover image.
The Directory and Community Guide is published annually by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and includes information on Chamber members, contact information and a business directory that can assist consumers in finding services and goods easily from reputable companies. Contestants were asked to submit photos they felt represented some aspect of life in Pasadena. There were no limitations on subject matter or content.
"Our membership represents the best of greater Pasadena's business community -- large multi-national corporations, long-standing firms that are the bedrock of our community, small businesses and individuals - all easily accessible through the directory," said Mr. Little. "I'm very pleased that the judges selected the work of a local photographer to grace the cover of our Directory and Community Guide."
