Lineage Dance to Offer Classes at the Armory
![]() |
For the community, Lineage Dance is delighted to offer Community/Family Dance Workshops. These popular workshops first began with the Lineage Dance project, "Dancing Through the Ages." Since 2005, Lineage Dance has been providing these fun, upbeat dance opportunities for children, parents and grandparents to dance together in creative and expressive ways. Participants will learn a variety of dance skills including partner improvisation. All ages are welcome, no experience necessary. There are two sessions. The first session meets Aug 17, Sept 28, Oct 12 and Nov 9th. The second session meets Dec. 14, Jan 11, Feb. 8, and Mar 8th. Students may join anytime. There will be a performing showcase opportunity on Nov. 9th and on March 8th at the end of each session. Suggested donation is $10 per person per class or $40 for a session. Family rates also available. Class time: 1:30-2:30, beginning Sunday August 17th.
The classes and workshops are made possible in part, by the generous support of the Pasadena Arts League. Managing Director Peggy Burt states, "We are so pleased with the support provided by the Pasadena Arts League. They have made it possible for Lineage Dance to continue to fulfill our mission of community outreach through dance. Our newest project will explore powerful memories, and the participants will have an opportunity to use these memories as inspiration for dance movement. Our Community/Family Dance Workshops bring together people of all different generations. There is a sense of powerful community when you see young children dancing with seniors and middle-aged people dancing with pre-teens. We are inviting the community to participate in these workshops that allow for improvisation, structured movement and sheer dancing fun."
Hilary Thomas was named one of the top choreographers in the Beverly Hills Outlook Dance Awards 2004 and 2005. Thomas' style of choreography incorporates both ballet and contemporary dance, constantly challenging gravity with daring lifts and falls to the floor. Her sense of musicality weaves music and movement together seamlessly. The Pasadena Arts Council honored Hilary Thomas with the prestigious Gold Crown Award in June, 2006. The company was selected to perform at Joyce SoHo in New York City last winter. Lineage Dance was awarded a 2008-09 grant from the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division to produce the 2nd annual Pasadena Dance Festival next February.
