The school was built in 1912 and designed by Henry Greene.

Assemblyman Anthony Portantino presented principal Erica Ingber with a certificate commemorating the 96th year of Longfellow School.

Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard and others joined with parents and students to begin a campaign to support Measure TT on the November ballot, which they say will improve public school facilities in Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre. 

George Fatheree, Campaign Chair of Yes on Measure TT, says many improvements will result from the Bond Measure.

"Although Longfellow is our oldest school, some of our schools were built before World War I and half our schools were built before 1927," Fatheree says. "Many of our schools need electrical system and plumbing upgrades, sprinkler systems and wheelchair ramps.  In addition, Measure TT will allow the District to invest in energy efficiencies and technology systems that ensure that our schools are modernized and best serve our students."

Fatheree says that over the last 18 months the district has worked with school principals, maintenance and operations staff and independent architecture and engineering firms to compile a comprehensive list of repairs and needs at every school site.  Priorities are ensuring school safety, code and health compliances and making much-needed infrastructure and utilities investments.

Fatheree also says, "Measure TT will ensure that every student will benefit by improvements at his or her school and that schools that received less work from the last bond will be first in line."
