A Showroom Goes Green
ALNO Pasadena demonstrates that being green can go deeper than just selling eco-friendly products

According to a recent article in This Old House there are approximately 75 green showrooms across the United States and Canada . Many of these showrooms aid in carbon-footprint reduction by selling green building materials and home décor products, in addition to hosting free classes on ways to design and build green.

A revolutionary addition to the list is the ALNO Pasadena showroom. Not only does this showroom promote a green product – ALNO kitchen cabinets – but it is a working model of eco-friendly technology and improved energy efficiency.

A green building both inside and out, the showroom was the design vision of ALNO Pasadena’s Owner Fred Crockett, who has been a general contractor for over 30 years.

“I didn’t really know too much about green building before starting this project,” said Crockett. “However, you go back and forth to see what works and what doesn’t. In the end it was a huge success. We have been doing numerous projects since opening, and I think the fact that we built our own green space, from which to sell a truly green product, has something to do with that.”

Crockett mentions that he paid an extra $12 per sq. ft. to complete this project, however his monthly energy bill hovers at a modest $150 per month.
