Arraignment For Man Accused Of Raping a Woman
Sexual assault reportedly occurred in a Pasadena office building
Anarraignment is scheduled Thursday for Edgar Solorzano, an Alhambra resident, who is accused of drugging and raping an 18-year-old woman at a Pasadena office building and sexually assaulting a second person.
The arraignment is scheduled in the Pasadena Courthouse.
Soloranzo turned himself into the Pasadena Superior Court after a warrant was issued for his arrest for the rape of an 18-year-old woman on Feb. 19, 2007, read a Pasadena Police Department news statement.
According to the release, the victim had been sexually assaulted in a Pasadena office building after allegedly been given a drink containing a date rape drug. The victim was still under the influence of the drug the following day and did not notify the police until two days after the attack.
According to detectives little evidence remained but the identity of suspect Soloranzo was disclosed.
Detectives contacted local forensic specialists and learned of a new procedure — gas chromatograph mass spectrometry — that can detect minute amounts of a date rape drug in the victim's hair.
Detectives sent strands of the victim’s hair to Toxicology Associates Inc., a lab in Columbus, Ohio that specializes in date rape analysis. Traces of The Office of the District Attorney filed rape charges against Solorzano the drug Rohypnol were found in the victim's hair after receiving the lab report. Additional charges of sexual battery were filed against Solorzano after a second female victim, a woman in her 30s, was located.
