Hundreds of middle and high school-aged Latinas, their mothers and teachers will come together Saturday at Pasadena City College in a day-long event to focus on career opportunities as PCC hosts the 14th annual "Adelante Mujer Latina Conference", said a PCC spokesperson in a news statement.

"Pasadena City College is honored to be a sponsor for such an important and enlightening endeavor," said Dr. Paulette J. Perfumo, PCC president.

"The opportunity to help young Latinas explore and discover what interests them is at the core of the institution's vision of promoting student success," Perfumo said.

Co-sponsored by the Pasadena Youth Center and PCC, the campus-wide conference offers career workshops presented by Latina professionals in their area of expertise.

Fields that will be covered include: science and technology; medicine/healing arts; business; education; social work; criminal justice; creative arts; and non-traditional trades such as construction and electrical.

Workshops will also be held for personal development, college planning/financial aid, and bilingual workshops for mothers on supporting their daughters' college plans and efforts, said PCC spokesperson Juan F. Gutierrez.

Honored members of Congress have participated in past events as keynote speakers, including Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, D-Garden Grove, and Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, D-Los Angeles. Rep. Hilda Solis, E-East Los Angeles,  will be this year's keynote speaker.

Wendy Carrillo from Movin 93.9 will be the morning master of ceremonies and Val Zavala from KCET's Life & Times will be the afternoon master of ceremonies, Gutierrez said.
