The Board of Education of the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) voted to elect Tom Selinske Board President for the 2008-09 school year. Elected to the Board of Education in March 2007, Selinske is a strong advocate for innovative and proven programs to increase student success, sound financial management and effective decision making, and increasing partnerships between PUSD, local businesses, governments and community organizations.
"I am excited to serve in this new role. I look forward to working with the community to provide a world-class educational experience for every student," said Selinske. "I am aware that we have many challenges ahead, and I encourage the entire community to continue to build support for our school district."
Selinske is a local business owner, and a past president of the Pasadena Educational Foundation. He was previously chair of the Longfellow School Site Council and chair of Leadership Pasadena. He was also a member of the City of Pasadena Parks and Recreation Commission for six years.
Board members also selected Bob Harrison to serve in the role of vice president. Harrison was also elected in 2007, and his priorities include accountability to teachers, parents and the community, partnerships with local colleges, organizations and employers, and transparency in budget procedures. Harrison is a restaurant owner and past president of Pasadena Educational Foundation and Neighborhood Church.
The PUSD Board elected its officers at the annual organizational meeting on Monday, May 5.
