The Daily Grind: New Coffeehouse Café

A café with a coffeehouse mindset or the other way round? The Daily Grind, Old Pasadena’s newest coffeehouse, will offer more than just coffee.

Sep 25, 2008 | 9:34 am

With a planned opening date of Saturday, September 27th, the Daily Grind, Old Pasadena’s newest coffeehouse, will offer more than just coffee.  Co-owner Brent Stokes says it will be "a café also" with "baked goods that are actually fresh, daily there on site. The sandwiches, the salads will also be prepared there on site so the food is not packaged as it is with some of our competitors."

A café with a coffeehouse mindset or the other way round? Stokes doesn't favor one aspect of service over the other.

The Daily Grind will not only serves up its own formulas of robust cappuccinos, lattes, breves, macchiatos, espressos, Americanos, and espressos con panna, but it has built on the basics and created specialty espressos. Among the signature temptations: Creamy Caramel™, CocoMocha™, CaraMochaNut™ and Coffee Toffee Blendz™.
You will also be able to unwind with teas and fruit smoothy concoctions.

As a companion to their lattes, cappuccinos and frappaccinos, Daily Grind will offer a fine selection of  croissants, muffins and scones to die for, all freshly baked on site, as well as a delectable variety of crisp salads and made-to-order sandwiches for lunch, with luscious cheesecake and other light desserts served up as a treat for later in the day.

Customers have the option of grabbing their latte and muffin and being on their way, but for those lucky enough to have a bit of time to spend, according to Mr. Stokes, "We have the fortune of a covered patio on the outside, so for those who want to dine al fresco we will bring the items out there on the patio to their table."

As if this weren't enough to entice the most die-hard coffeehouse aficionados to stop by,  Mr. Stokes is taking it one step further.

"We intend to have music piped inside and outside and occasionally even have entertainment on the patio. Live entertainment. Maybe once, twice a month," he says. Food, coffee, and live music.

By opening a café with old-fashioned personal service and sandwiches prepared on their own fresh-baked breads and combining it with a coffeehouse featuring all the latest coffee blends and specialty coffee drinks from around the world, co-owners Brent Stokes and Linda Collins, the day-to-day manager of Old Pasadena’s Daily Grind, have taken their slogan "life is busy, take a moment" to heart. Great advice in today’s fast-paced world.
