ITF 2With a course study that includes body measurements, pattern making, pattern layout and cutting, and sewing techniques among others, the Italian Fashion School is a one of a kind educational center that offers hands-on experience in dressmaking.

Founded by Angela Zdelar, the school caters to those who prefer a small group learning environment and flexible schedules that favor the students.

“I don’t think there is anything like my school around. I mean, yes, there are fashion colleges. Italian Fashion School is not a college; it is a place to learn very particular concepts for creating clothes for actual bodies, not mannequins!

ITF 3Zdelar says of her beginnings as a dressmaker and her dream of building a school, “I always liked fashion. Throughout the years, I always liked making clothes, but then I wanted to perfect myself and [went] to Italy to do that. That’s where I really learned the fine skills, and that’s how [the fashion school] came to me.”

Zdelar, who was born and raised in Europe but moved to the U.S. at a young age, says that she was inspired by tailored clothing and a class she took about fabric in 7th grade. She adds, “I’m always impressed by a tailor that, when you come inside, will take your measurements; make you what you want them to make; make you look how you want to look. Because [those] clothes fit you well, they make you look great and you feel good because those clothes suits you. “These are the concepts she aims to teach in her school.

“Italian Fashion School is not like every other school. Itis a small, private school with very flexible hours. As long as I have open spaces at the school tables, I can accommodate people to whatever schedule they would like.”

“If someone is taking just, let’s say, ladies wear, they can finish it in 400, 450 hours. In terms of how long it will take to complete the course, it depends on how many hours students want to put in per week.”(Don’t worry gentlemen– she offers classes in menswear, too.)

What sets the Italian Fashion School apart from larger schools is that the program is designed for beginners and enthusiasts who want to learn the skills of pattern making, dressmaking, or simply put, for people who want to learn the skill of how to make custom fitted clothes!

Even people that have experience in sewing but want to learn new skills increating patterns and tailored garments will find Italian Fashion School to be a great learning experience.

Consider it an introductory step into the colorful world of fabrics and style. Break free of the fashion industry’s shackles and become your own, personal fashion designer! Angela Zdelar will teach you how.
