Arnold's Fine Jewelry in Pasadena today.

Very few businesses in Pasadena can match the years Arnold’s Fine Jewelry has been open. As the Crown City’s oldest family-owned jewelry store, it celebrates its 110th year in 2020.

The company started in 1890 when C.O. Arnold opened his first store in Ottumwa, Iowa, where he sold jewelry and musical instruments from a two-story building. C.O. moved his family to Pasadena around 1910 and set up shop in a storefront near the present-day Mi Piace restaurant in Old Town.

Two more moves landed the store in its current location in the Colonnade at 350 South Lake Avenue, across the street from Macy’s.

C.O.’s grandson Bruce Arnold began working side-by-side with his father at the store in the early to mid-1970s and bought the business when his father retired. A certified gemologist and member of the American Gem Society, Bruce leads three generations of staff members that continue the company’s fine customer service.

Arnold’s success rests on the company’s dedication to design, repair and appraisal. “The things in our showcase, a lot of what we make, you can’t get anywhere else, so there is the rarity factor,” Bruce said. “We do a great deal of custom manufacturing. My staff knows what they are doing and customers are very comfortable working with them.”

Customers head to Arnolds’s to select engagement rings and wedding sets, as well as jewelry set with birthstones. January’s birthstone is garnet that comes in a rainbow of colors. From the fiery orange Mandarin Garnet to the rich green Tsavorite Garnet and to the most widely recognized color of Pyrope Garnet, it is considered a great gift to symbolize friendship and trust.

Each month’s birthstones are featured in all types of jewelry at Arnold’s – necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings (including engagement rings, a new trend), one-of-a-kind pieces, heirlooms and more.
