The RISE tickets go on sale, Friday, Aug. 1: The RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns makes its West Coast debut at Descanso Gardens. This family-friendly event is a multi-sensory spectacular featuring thousands of pumpkins hand carved by artists and used in amazing installations. Advance tickets are required, and tickets are sold online only. Find details at

Green Thumb 101: Irrigation Troubleshooting, Saturday, Aug. 2, 10am: Finding and fixing irrigation issues is essential to keeping plants happy and using water efficiently. Bring your gloves for a hands-on irrigation troubleshooting experience. Beginning gardeners welcome. $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Registration deadline July 26.

Free Tuesday: Rainwater, Greywater & Your Garden, Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2pm: Scott Mathers of Hey!Tanks LA and Leigh Jerrard of Greywater Corps discuss rainwater harvesting and recapturing greywater to use in your garden. Part of “Get Dirty: A Garden Series by Descanso” on Third Tuesdays. Public admission to the Gardens and the lecture is free of charge the third Tuesday of the month.

Summer at Descanso

• Midweek Extended Summer Hours, Tuesdays-Thursdays, June 19 – August 21, 9am – 8pm: For 10 weeks this summer, Descanso will keep its gate open late. Enjoy family programs, jazz concerts or a twilight walk. Members enter free; regular admission for nonmembers. No reciprocal gardens admissions.

• Camellia Lounge, Tuesdays-Thursdays, June 19 – August 21, 4:30 – 7:45pm: The Camellia Lounge returns for its fifth season during extended summer hours. Enjoy signature cocktails, savory cuisine, snacks and beverages. Pre-sale dinners are available for Tuesday and Thursday concerts; for information.

• Music On The Main Summer Jazz, Thursdays, June 19 – August 21, 6pm: Relax on the lawn with a picnic and enjoy live jazz performed by veteran artists and rising stars. Free with admission. Lawn seating is first-come, first-served.

• World Rhythms Series, Tuesdays, June 24 – August 5, 6pm: This family-friendly performance series celebrates the rich diversity of music from around the world. Bring a picnic! Free with admission. Lawn seating is first-come, first-served.

Admission to Descanso Gardens is $9 general, $6 seniors/students with I.D., $4 children 5 to 12; children 4 and younger free. Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge.
