The world is not as big as it used to be. At one time, the other side of the world seemed such a faraway place, but now the internet has allowed us to feel as though we are all neighbours. Very few places are inaccessible these days. Products can be purchased from across the world at the touch of a button as though you are there in the store yourself.

Fashion, trends and popular culture transcends atlantics, oceans and miles when we can access the same information as someone across the continent and feel as though we are part of the same thing.

Cosplay is just one of these examples. A popular craze first starting in Japan and across Asia, the name means ‘costume play’, where participants dress up in costumes to represent a certain character in Anime cartoons. The trend has expanded beyond just Anime though and now people across the world spend hours pouring time into creating their best Han Solo, Chun-Li, or Iron Man costumes to show off at conventions like Comic Con.

If you are already submerged into the cosplay culture, or you would like to know more about it, Pacific Media Expo is holding an exhibition this Saturday September 5th through to September 7th.

The expo starts at 12:00 p.m. each day and will showcase popular Asian pop culture for the first time in the U.S. There will be live music, panel discussions, a fashion show, autograph sessions, Asian cinema and an animation video room.

Kyoko Hikami will be the celebrity guest of honor. Kyoka is best known for her voice as Luna Noa in Silver Star Story, and lending her voice to PlayStation 3 as Tsubaki Takamura amongst others.

Expect to see lots of anime costumes, as well as Japanese style mah-jong workshops.

Tickets cost $30-$55 per person. The expo will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center, which is centrally located for all transportation, hotels and restaurants.
