Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food at Culture Club 101. This market, learning center and cafe focuses on traditional cooking, nourishing food and sustainability. CC101 was inspired by the book Nourishing Traditions, by Sally Fallon. This mission-driven health center seeks to bring awareness about how food impacts our bodies and the planet.

In 2009, Elaina Luther opened Culture Club 101 as a culinary club and helped foster many local cottage industry businesses. Luther is known for her sauerkrauts, kombuchas and probiotic sodas – and passion for sharing her knowledge with others.

“Everyone here is mission-driven and focused on improving people’s lives by getting back to our roots,” said Maya Ginger, CC101’s Director of Social Media Marketing.

Due to business zoning issue, CC101 closed its doors in 2014 and Luther drew support from the community to open Culture Club 101 at its current location. This iteration of Culture Club 101 is offers a cafe, space for classes, retail store – stocked with former student’s products – and members-only lending library.

Visit CC101 for an education in nourishing foods and traditional cooking through classes like a tutorial on making raw yogurt and introduction to sauerkraut or stop by for a Food & Film Night with discussion about the food industry and small bites.

After ordering a drink, small meal or Broth Bowl from the CC101 cafe, you’ll be able to stock your pantry with home fermentation and ancient grain baking supplies from the retail store. Find everything from reusable food wrap made with beeswax to einkorn flour.

“In the last ten years, people have gotten hip to, what I call, the food-industrial complex…the diversity of people we get in here is striking,” said Gingery.
