Family-Owned Shop Focuses on Pet Wellness, Building Community

As a member of the Pasadena business community for over 11 years, My Pet Garden knows what it takes to have staying power: building relationships with the people around you. While clients drive from many areas of the greater Los Angeles area to visit My Pet Garden, it’s the customers who drop by frequently to say hello, use the doggy daycare, and buy their pet food and treats – many of whom have become like family over the years – that help grow the pet community (and My Pet Garden’s business).

My Pet Garden’s commitment to holistic pet care in all aspects, including grooming, doggy daycare, boarding, and the food and products they carry, stems from owners Joel and Ruth Tatom’s personal love and respect for animals. Joel, a former zookeeper, knows the importance of keeping a pet’s body and mind healthy, and brought that expertise to the table when he saw that Pasadena was lacking a store with a wellness focus for pets.

In founding My Pet Garden, the Tatoms met a need for pet products and services, but also dedicated themselves to the rescue community at large, starting with showcasing adoptable bunnies from various organizations. Mixed Mutts – a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue group – uses My Pet Garden’s facilities to groom, socialize, and showcase adoptable pets. This creates a positive experience both to the dogs and cats who are seeking new homes and brings much joy to the customers who come in regularly, many of whom have added new furry family members as a result! In addition to My Pet Garden’s strong alliance with Mixed Mutts, the shop also provides various services for the Pasadena Humane Society, and others, often behind the scenes.

Over the years, the Tatoms, along with store manager Christina Niels, have listened carefully to customers’ needs and wants while keeping abreast of the latest research and trends in pet food, products, and more. By keeping product selection fresh and their team’s knowledge current, My Pet Garden is a leader both in the Pasadena business community and the pet wellness industry as a whole.

“We are proud to have been a part of the Pasadena community for more than a decade, and are grateful for the customers and friends we have made over the years. We look forward to many more years of bringing Pasadena the best in pet services and products.” – Ruth Tatom, Store Owner

My Pet Garden’s motto – Pasadena’s Best Place to Shop, Stay, Play, or Have A Spa Day – is tough to argue once you stop in and see the smiling faces and wagging tails in the shop. And who doesn’t feel good about helping out pets in need? It’s a win-win for everybody. So next time you’re in the area, drop by and pick up a goodie for your furry family member, or maybe meet your new best four-legged friend in one of the adoptable pets visiting My Pet Garden. It’s not every day that doing some shopping can change a life – or two.
