Get in the Holiday Spirit with Keiki Gingerbread Houses

Last Sunday morning in Old Town Pasadena, Roy’s, the Hawaiian fusion restaurant, opened their doors early for their annual Keiki Gingerbread event. The event was scheduled to start at 11:30, but even before that, children and parents sat in the restaurant lobby eagerly waiting.

Toppings included candy canes, skittles and frosting to decorate the gingerbread houses. With the help of their parents, Rylie and Brady Shen, decorated their houses with many toppings. Riley’s house featured gumdrop trees that circled around it and Brady’s house had different colored candy windows.

For the next hour, laughter and smiles took over the room as the kids put together their edible houses. As they carefully placed their gumdrop trees and candy windows, servers from Roy’s went around the tables taking lunch orders. Shirley temples were a popular choice.

According to Adam Palffy, chef partner at Roy’s Pasadena, a free meal is included with the event. “We do this at every location,” said Palffy, “and what’s nice is we don’t have them sectioned off in each individual table, so every one interacts with everyone, the kids have fun together.”

Along with the fun, though, comes a little bit of mess, from all the icing and candy, admitted Palffy.

Don’t despair if you missed the gingerbread extravaganza this week, Roy’s is hosting another gingerbread event next Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Roy’s will help the kids build the house of their dreams while you enjoy a fun, festive visit at Roy’s. Donate a new unwrapped toy and receive $5 off. Fee includes Lunch and Gingerbread Supplies.
