Get Ready For BOLDPAS

For those interested in broadening your artistic horizons, the BOLDPAS ART Takeover is for you.

The one-day event will feature plenty of bold artworks from talented artists and is coming to Old Pasadena on May 12. The district’s historic alleyways will be taken over by 13 temporary art installations (redundant), while more than two dozen local businesses serve as Art Stops and showcase their own artsy displays.

Each selected artist hails from Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles area. Their work honors the bold theme with their work by using bright colors and playful techniques to wow the crowds. There will also be three live painters there that day, as well as plenty of other activities to keep both adults and children entertained.

Take a look at what BoldPas 2017 looked like:

This second edition of BOLDPAS is welcoming a number of renowned artists:

Sustainable artist Todd Banks has created a zero-waste installation that aims to show the fun side of recycling. And Phillip Meacham’s emotional work is one not to be missed.

Keith Patterson and Viviana Palacio, meanwhile, are encouraging audience participation with their large-scale puzzle that will need to be solved throughout the day. Robyn Sanford’s *HUGS* invites guests to touch — and yes, even hug — the artwork while Rebekah Neel and Meagan VanDeventer’s Interactive Circles will only be complete with the help of event-goers.

There will also be a haiku-inspired garden crafted by Leah Clancy and furry sculptures by Maxwell Coppola that are just begging to be touched. (Guaranteed the children will have plenty of fun with that particular one.) Don’t forget to take plenty of photos in front of Kelley Anderson’s Moss Wall and be sure to spend some time working out what’s behind Ash Cano’s series of black boxes.

Recycling is the theme of Hannah Hiler’s reading-themed installation and Amy Van Gilder is providing even more photo opportunities with her Old Pasadena Postcards artwork. For those intrigued by the cosmos, stop by Rachel Visalda’s galactical piece. Why not end the day pondering the purpose of a door without a handle thanks to Nathaniel Osollo?

The local artists that will be painting live are the nostalgic Allison Bamcat, minimalist Luke Chueh and impressionist Valerie Pobjoy.

BOLDPAS is free, and will take place on May 12 between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m., and there is no reason you shouldn’t come on down and enjoy the artful vibrancy of Old Pasadena during this great event sure to please everyone from kids to adults.
