Have the Beer Without the Belly

Life is all about trade-offs. You know that delicious IPA comes with a calorie and carb-heavy price. But who has ever heard of unwinding with a tall, cold glass of pressed juice? Well, it’s one or other right, because never the twain shall meet.
Or shall they?

The aptly named and Altadena-based Dr. Jekyll Brewery has come up with an ingenious idea that may just have you patting them on the back. Realising that the people of LA will never abandon their health-centric ways, this brewery has come up with a way to fuse health food with America’s favorite brewed beverage.

Dr. Jekyll (there is no Hyde) has teamed up with Virun, a bio-tech life science company, who together have created some unique beers, Bio beer, Beer belly and Beer Attack. Each of which contain six to eight superfoods in them so your toned ab muscles can relax.
They have come up with a solution that allows you to unwind with a beer whilst getting rid of free radicals.

Bio Beer is a mildly aggressive India Pale Ale (IPA) containing superfoods acai berry, turmeric, mushroom, garlic, hints of ginger, berry notes and citrus.

Beer Attack is Irish style red ale, with six organic malts, hints of cinnamon, caramel and a hint of smokiness. It has a variety of superfoods that include maqui berry, hawthorn berry, cinnamon oil, flaxseed oil, algal oil and garlic. Perfect drink to accompany your grilled salmon, Sheppard’s pie, chicken or pasta.

Beer Belly is American Kolsch with very few calories. The drink has citrus, cardamom, and coriander. Superfoods in it are acai berry, maqui berry, grapefruit fiber, green tea and coffee bean (both of which contain antioxidants and bioactive compounds).

Beer Belly is a perfect way to eat with shellfish, sausages, cream based pasta and mild cheeses.

Their vegan, non-GMO beers can be found at wholefoods, Cost Plus, Total Wine, as well as other retailers, bars, restaurants and speciality stores.

“The demand for our craft beers with super foods is nearly insatiable” says Tom Costa, owner of the unique Dr. Jekyll’s Craft Beer. “It’s an exciting time and the response from retailers, restaurant owners and customers has been truly gratifying.”

All Dr. Jekyll’s beers are brewed and bottled in California. It is available throughout the year and distributed by Incline Beverages and Artisan Distribution. You can order online at www.Drjekylls.com call (310) 273-8339, or email info@DrJekylls.com.
