Holiday Hazards

The holidays are one of the most wonderful times of the year; Times with family, scrumptious desserts, and insurance claims.

Insurance claims? Yes, the holidays show a spike in insurance claims and most of them can be avoided.

Most Americans like to multitask but baking cookies while wrapping gifts is not the best idea. It only takes one time of forgetting the gingerbread men in the oven to burn your kitchen down. An Allstate poll shows that 32% of cooks have fallen asleep with something in the oven. So if the holiday exhaustion kicks in wait until morning to bake your cookies or buy store bought ones. (We won’t tell.)

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire? (Fire claim.) Jack Frost nipping at your nose? (Mailman slips on your sidewalk.) The yuletide fire with your eyes all aglow? (House burns down.) Even in the midst of the holiday hoopla it is important to keep safety at the forefront. Blow out candles and lock your doors before beds. Make sure your packages are delivered when someone is home to bring them in.

According to the Allstate data, over the holidays the chance of frozen pipes in California increases 500%. That may not be a problem in this area but getting your plumbing maintenance down before the holidays is a smart move. Can you imagine the toilet backing up on Aunt Edna? Or the disposal spraying Grandpa? For a plumbing checkup, a great local resource to call on is Keithley Plumbing.

Contact Keithley Plumbing at www.keithleyplumbing.com or by calling (626) 4490387. They are located at 3579 E Foothill Blvd #227, Pasadena.

And tell Santa to be careful coming down the chimney your homeowner’s insurance does not cover visitors from the North Pole.
