International Pizza Man Brings His Blend to Pasadena

The 2016 Yelp Best Restaurant on the West Coast has arrived in Pasadena. And It’s not some fancy shmancy farm-to-table bistro, either. Sapori di 786 Degrees is currently open during lunchtime hours on weekends.

786 Degrees’ first Sun Valley location has 1,550 reviews with a 5-star rating, and a host of other accomplishments too long to list. Inspired by chef/owner Ali Haider’s background, 786 Degrees takes classic, wood-fired Neapolitan pizza and fuses it with international flavors.

Ali Haider is half-Iraqi, half-Indian, and “at heart, an Italian,” he told KABC7.

For example, the Bombay Tikka Masala’s toppings include a burrata and paneer cheese blend, mango chutney, tikka masala sauce, and chicken kebab.

Or, the El Chapo’s: Mexican Beef Chorizo, grilled onions, cilantro, and Monterey jack cheese. Apparently, the “flavor is hard to capture.”

“Our cuisine focuses on sourcing the freshest locally grown organic seasonal produce and then integrating that to the finest imported Italian ingredients to achieve a unique synergy of healthful nutrition and vibrant flavors,” according to 786’s website.

According to an LA Weekly article, Haider speaks five languages. When he quit his job as a “spokesmodel” (a promotional model) for Lamborghini, he traveled to Naples to study the fine art of pizza-making.

786 uses San Marzano tomatoes and other fine Italian ingredients. Haider imports Italian Tipo “00” flour, salt, water, and yeast which has been cooled and fermented for 72 hours, as is the tradition in Naples.

786 Degrees can also bring the oven to your doorstep. Literally. 786 has a mobile oven unit that they will park at your wedding, corporate function, or private event. Haider’s unique and seriously accomplished International-Italian pizza flavor can be transported directly to your stomach’s desire.

Sapori Di 786 Degrees is located at 1709 E Washington Blvd. Visit 786degrees.com or call (626) 460-2786.
