It’s Summer Be Happy at Fleming’s All Day Happy Hour and New Bar Menu

The problem with Happy Hours are well, the hours. When you work until 5:00 or 5:30 by the time you get to a restaurant you’ve got five minutes left or it just ended. Fleming’s Steakhouse in Pasadena has a cure for that; all day happy hour, everyday! But it’s only for summer so don’t squander this great deal!

But wait, there’s more. Fleming’s has a new bar menu with all sorts of yummy new dishes (please note not all of the bar menu is available on the Happy Hour menu). If you have veg friends bring them along because there are new choices for them as well.

I had the opportunity to taste some of these new bar menu selections (it’s a tough job but my dedication to my readers takes precedence). I started out with one of the many inventive drinks on the menu; a SoCal V&T, a tart little number made with Absolut Elyx, craft tonic, and fresh herbs. Delicious nibbles of Crispy Castelvetrano Olives with a smoky-spicy aioli and Candied Bacon were served first. The olives were crispy little bites of salty deliciousness. If you are a person who doesn’t like their olives briny but will eat the black olives you’ll love these. They are meaty but not briny and when dipped in the aioli they are irresistible. You can’t just eat one slice of the Candied Bacon so make sure you have plenty for the table. Sweet and hot, it’s just the right combination of both.

A customer favorite, the Blueberry Lemon Drop made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka was served along with the Colossal Shrimp tempura and Harvest Vegetable tempura. Both are accompanied with a agrodolce sauce which is a sweet/sour sauce. The shrimp really were colossal and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. Vegetables included in both platters were portobello mushrooms, asparagus, red pepper and lemon, all fresh and tender crunchy with a light tempura coating.

The bar menu has a nice assortment of burgers, I tried two: Mushroom-Farro Burger and California Burger. The mushroom-farro burger is for all you vegetarians. The patty was made with mushrooms, chick peas and farro, and topped with goat cheese, arugula, campari tomatoes and a fried onion ring. The vegetable patty was meaty without the meat and the goat cheese blended with the flavors nicely. The California burger was made of prime beef cooked to your liking, tomato, arugula, bacon, avocado and cheddar cheese…yum. This was one juicy burger and that bacon, you can’t beat it. Both burgers were served with fries and a couple of the crispy castelvetrano olives.

If meat and potatoes are your favs then the Filet Mignon and Potato Waffle is for you. It’s ingenious really, Fleming’s takes their creamy mashed potatoes and puts them into a waffle iron so they come out crispy and golden. Sliced Filet Mignon topped the golden waffles with a rich demi glace that soaked into the waffles along with the meaty juices. Add a little horseradish cream sauce and you’ve got one fantastic taste.

Lamb Lollipops are another meaty treat, just big enough for three or four bites, the lamb was grilled to perfection. Tomato, arugula, castelvetrano olives and herbed goat cheese guild the lily.

Happy hour is such fun. It helps turn a crappy week into a happy week. But often the food is anything but good or hearty. With Fleming’s new happy hour menu you can have your favorite drink and delicious food too.
