Having problems sleeping? You aren’t alone. Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder affecting many people in the Pasadena area and it should be taken seriously.

According to WebMD, sleep apnea occurs when a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep.

There are two types of sleep apnea:

• Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): The more common of the two forms of sleep apnea, it is caused by a blockage of the airway, usually when the soft tissue in the back of the throat collapses during sleep.

• Central Sleep Apnea: Unlike OSA, the airway is not blocked, but the brain fails to signal the muscles to breathe due to instability in the respiratory control center.

Anyone can be at risk for sleep apnea, but the main factors involved are if you male, over 40, and overweight. The first line of therapy for Sleep apnea is a CPAP machine but there is a new treatment option for people who don’t use or can’t get benefit from CPAP.

Dr. Eric Kezirian will be presenting a new sleep apnea treatment called Inspire at the Courtyard by Marriott in Pasadena in the Del Mar Room Saturday March 3, 2018 at 9 a.m.

Inspire is a breakthrough sleep apnea treatment that works inside your body with your natural breathing process. Inspire patients use a sleep remote to simply turn Inspire therapy on before bed and off when they wake up. No mask, no hose, no noise.
