Pasadena Showcase Designer Unfazed by Challenging Master Suite Restore

Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts recently gathered prominent interior designers and landscapers to celebrate the start of a massive restore of a distinguished home and make it the next Pasadena Showcase House.

For years, the Pasadena Showcase House has cemented its reputation as one of the country’s oldest and most successful house and garden tours.

One of the participating interior designers is Joshua Cain of Saxony Design Build. He is in charge of restoring the grandeur and opulence of the house’s master suite.

Cain admitted it’s going to be a challenging endeavor. “The thing is here, there are no closets in this room. This bathroom also only has one window. It’s really dark,” he said.

However, Cain is not fazed, and already knows how he’s going to tackle the project. “The concept is to transform this into a vestibule that you go through that’s all craftsman wood paneling, leading to French doors that go out on the terrace. Which is actually really lovely outside. You can see the grounds. And then this side will be her closet and that side will be his closet.”

“There’s a sun room over here that was just like a ‘catch all’ junk room that the owners had,” Cain continued. “So this whole bathroom suite basically will move over there. It will have dual sinks and a big clawfoot tub and shower, and it will be done in a very kind of craftsman mission feel to fit the style of the house.”

We’ll be getting to know more of the designers featured in this year’s Showcase House every week until the opening in April—keep an eye out!
