Pasadena’s Department of Public Health Will Continue to Offer Free Travel Vaccinations

Pasadena’s Department of Public Health will continue to offer three popular travel vaccines at its immunization clinic to people who are travelling overseas, especially on extended periods.

DPH announced that vaccines for Japanese encephalitis, yellow fever and typhoid fever will continue to be provided at the Adult and Travel Immunization Clinic after the City Council requested a reassessment of the Clinic’s services during 2016 budget discussions.

However, the department will not be able to offer Malaria consultations at this time, although it promised to re-evaluate this policy after other issues related to the department’s work are resolved. Private vaccination clinics in Pasadena may be able to provide Malaria vaccinations.

The continued provision of travel vaccines to Pasadena residents was discussed while the City Council was deliberating on the department’s recommended budget for 2016, which is about $2.8 million less than this year’s.  Since March, the Adult and Travel Immunization Clinic, located at 1845 N Fair Oaks Avenue, has been open on Mondays and Wednesdays only, 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Aside from vaccinations, the clinic also provides vaccination certifications for people planning to travel. These certifications are frequently required by health and quarantine officials at all international air and sea ports of entry.

Because of this requirement, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health strongly recommend pre-travel consultations and vaccination especially when travelling to high-risk areas.
