Republik Coffee and Its Exclusive, Once-In-A-Lifetime Party For Latte Art

Coffee shops are usually one of two things–a quick stop caffeine fix or a neighborhood hangout. But what about a hub for connoisseurs and exclusive parties where world champion latte artists in the industry drop in for once-in-a-lifetime taste tests, demonstrations, and fun?

The two-month-old Republik Coffee Lounge in Pasadena already does that, silently debuting its place in the local coffee scene and beyond as a hub for exquisite taste.

World Latte Art Champion, Um Paul, a South Korean native, was in town for one night only to make his award-winning lattes for a small, paying audience.

“Most baristas do whatever someone requests. He actually creates new design concepts and then he focuses on the emotion of the image, not solely on technique,” says Republik Coffee Lounge roaster Luke Jung, who is friends with Paul and has 13 years of experience under his belt.

Paul’s delicate touch and perfectionist sensibilities are what he’s known for and just hours before he performed to an eager Pasadena crowd, he took home another first place title at the Los Angeles Coffee Fest.

“Every time he creates a certain pattern people feel what is he trying to say and they fall in love with his art.”
