Shiny Red Pieces of Sunshine Bring Joy to Everyone

Strawberries are delicious ripe pieces of sunshine that encompass the best of both sweet and sour. Great on their own, the fruit can also be mixed with cream, ice cream, or even rhubarb in your favorite pie.

Sometimes, it can be hard to find strawberries that have that special taste. But the Pasadena Certified Farmers Market is the place to go for delicious fresh fruit all year round.

A number of farms pick and sell their strawberries at the market, says Gretchen Sterling. These include the likes of Harry’s Berries, JF Organic Farms, Underwood Family Farms and Suarez Farms.

As well as their great taste, strawberries have plenty of health benefits. Full of antioxidants, they can work to improve your immune system and even the function of your brain.

Strawberries also contain a multitude of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, says the market’s Gretchen Sterling. The most impressive of these is Vitamin C which helps stop annoying illnesses like colds and coughs from taking over your body. It also spurs white blood cells in the body into action, allowing them to defend your insides from any toxins.

Potassium is also included in strawberries. This boosts the blood flow to your brain, improving its cognitive function. High levels of potassium have also been linked to better concentration and memory.

You may not have realized the myriad benefits of your favorite fruit. But don’t forget to pick up some great-tasting packs picked straight from the farm at the Pasadena Certified Farmers Market.

Pasadena Certified Farmers Market is located at 2900 block of North Sierra Madre Boulevard, in Pasadena. For more information call (626) 449-0179 or visit http://www.pasadenafarmersmarket.org/VictoryPark.
