Smitty’s Grill, a Pasadena dining destination known for its American comfort food and attentive staff, introduced a new cocktail menu. “Our mixology program has a very local following,” said Gregg Smith, so-owner of Smith Brothers Restaurant Corporation. “Each bartender brings their own flair.”

Smitty’s infuses and ages their own spirits which imparts richer tasting notes and more complex flavors into their drinks. Their bourbon for 40 days in American Oak barrels for Manhattans and Old Fashioned cocktails. This time intensive process helps draw out the caramel and vanilla flavors from the wood and make for a smooth drink.

“We do everything with love,” said Cathleen Razon, bartender at Smitty’s. She adds that attention to detail and consistency are also hallmarks of the bar program.

In addition to the drinks themselves, Smitty’s pays attention to their ice. Matt Coleman, the General Manager, designed the special clear ice cubes. These cubes are startlingly clear and free of impurities so the ice doesn’t alter the flavor of the cocktail.

“Cocktails are a personal preference,” said Smith. “There used to be rules about only drinking red wine with meat and white wine with fish but now those same rules don’t apply.”

Smitty’s offers a highly personalized bar experience with a little something for everyone , explained Razon. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows not only your name but also your favorite drink, birthday and where you like to sit.

“When you come to [Smitty’s] it’s like coming to a friend’s house,” said Smith.
