The Anatomy of a Perfect Salad

Salads are most people’s go-to options for a light meal. The best salads start with seasonal vegetables and fruits so summer is the perfect time to hop on the salad train. Make your next salad anything but boring with these easy to follow tips.

1. Too much salad dressing! – A number one salad mistake. You may think that the more dressing the better because that’s where all the flavor comes from, but there’s nothing less appetizing than a salad that’s dripping with oil.

2. Boring toppings – okay, while not getting creative with your toppings might not really count as a mistake, it can lead to unappetizing and boring salads. Don’t just stick to the regular chicken breast, tomato, cucumber toppings. Adding in fruits, nuts, grains and cheeses can make your salad much more interesting.

3. Lack of seasoning – If you’re one of those people who thinks that salads are bland, you may just need to add a little salt and pepper. But remember, a little bit goes a long way.

4. Lack of dietary fats – Don’t skip fats in your salad and choose 1-2 of the following to add on top: 1/2 avocado, a sprinkle of parmesan, few strips of bacon, pepperoni, hard-boiled eggs or nuts. Fats are better than carbs but provide more nutrition value and will keep you satisfied for longer.
