Using Yoga as Therapy

Monday, November 12, 2018 | 9:28 pm

The difficulties of recovering from injuries or illnesses can sometimes seem insurmountable, but yoga offers solutions for the mind, body and soul that when used wisely can create opportunities that support the healing process.

Viviana Valladares of Indigo Yoga in Altadena tells us that yoga, at all levels, is therapeutic and will help your body deal with any type of trauma in more positive ways by bringing all three essences together and bringing them into harmony. By bringing the principles of yoga into your life will help to balance life in general, which is another way that the practice can help the body, mind, and spirit heal itself when those injuries come.

Even if you aren’t injured in some way, yoga can be an important part of staying healthy. Meditation can give practitioners a way to step away from all the day-to-day stress that each of us encounters in life for a brief period. This is hugely beneficial because, “One who is able to withdraw his senses from sense objects, as the tortoise draws its limbs within the shell, is firmly fixed in perfect consciousness,” says the Bhagavad Gita, which is an ancient Indian text important to the tradition of the Hindu.

Does this mean you must quit your job and make like a monk, move to the mountains and go into a trance? No, but when all the “business as usual” conditions are disrupted for any length of time it will help the body, mind, and spirit get back in sync again and avail the practitioner of their inner power and allow them to cope with anything more positively.

Here is a video that can help you to understand the benefits of practicing yoga:

So, if you are one of the injured and would like to find a way to help the body, mind, and spirit come together and help the healing process then go see Viviana Valladares and her team and Indigo Yoga and let them teach you the ways of yoga.
