Why You Should Order the Steak

Steak has long had a bad rap. It is delicious but not something you think of when trying to be healthy – chicken tends to top that list. But what if you can eat lean beef and it actually does something good for you?

A new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has given new hope to steak lovers everywhere. The study shows that the saturated fat, specifically the stearic acid, in lean beef can help reduce the LDL number of your cholesterol. Lower cholesterol helps your heart so you can order that nice juicy cut of lean steak and keep your resolution to get healthy.

There are many steak places to try nearby but one you may enjoy is Alexander’s Steakhouse in Pasadena. Their menu looks delicious with items such as an Aurora Angus Filet 8 oz. accompanied by a negi salad or the 10 oz. MM Farms filet mignon served with watercress.

Alexander’s also serves the rare Japanese Wagyu beef which is truly a once in a lifetime experience right here at home. Another unique advantage in Wagyu is that it contains a much higher proportion of the desirable fats than other beef. The Mono-Unsaturated Fatty Acids to Saturated Fatty Acids ratio is up to three times higher, 6:1, in Wagyu than in any other beef (normal ratio is about 2:1). Consuming Wagyu beef is beneficial to your health, possessing a unique high concentration of beneficial omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids and a higher ratio of mono to saturated fats.
