A 100-year-old, 125-foot-tall pine tree suddenly collapsed and fell at a home in the 900 block of North Hill Avenue Tuesday afternoon, damaging a fence and crushing a parked car.
There were no injuries.
The homeowners and their two children were away from the property at the time, a Pasadena Fire Department official said. They returned to find the large tree down, straddling two properties, and the Infinity destroyed.
There was no significant damage to homes in the area, and utility and telephone wires were not compromised, officials said. Oversaturated soil and top-heavy tree branches were likely the causes of the collapse.
“This could have been a lot worse situation,” Pasadena Fire Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian said. The family’s children frequently play outside where the tree fell.
