A crowd of over 200 witnessed nonprofit executive Robin McCarthy sworn in as Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Board in a ceremony conducted by outgoing Chair Ishmael Trone during the Friday, July 7 Inauguration Gala at the Langham Huntington Hotel.

McCarthy laid out two themes for her administration: jobs for local young people, and the strengthening of ties between the Pasadena business and nonprofit communities.

Earlier in the ceremony, Trone formally announced a major new Chamber initiative, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which will invest in the future of Pasadena’s high school students by giving them real world work experiences in a variety of industries before they graduate as seniors.

The Foundation, which is currently in the final stage of approval, will aim to ensure long term funding to help the program grow and serve more students than it is currently able to help in kickstarting careers.

The Chamber also recognized a small member business and a large member business as Corporate Citizen of the Year. This year, A.J. Longo & Associates were honored as small business Corporate Citizen and Villa Gardens was recognized as the large business Corporate Citizen.

The Inaugural Gala also featured the presentation of scholarship checks to local students.
