2019–2020 Staff and Board Members Kick Off La Canada Presbyterian Church Parent Education's 41st Year

La Canada Presbyterian Church (LCPC) Parent Education kicked off its 41st year at its annual Board/Staff Retreat at Maggie Mason’s home in Oxnard. The retreat, led by Director, Anne Bierling, brought together Staff, the Volunteer Board, and the Ministry Support Team to plan for the year ahead, using Micah 6:8 “Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly” as their guiding theme. The 2019 – 2020 Parent Education Team includes 18 staff members, 10 volunteer board members, and 6 volunteers who serve on the Ministry Support Team. As their tagline proudly boasts: if you have a child 0-18, we have a class for you!

Continuing its renowned legacy of helping families thrive, Parent Ed offers 16 daytime classes and 5 evening classes for parents of children 0-18 that provide education, friendship, and sustenance. Daytime classes include Parent-and-Child Classes where both children and adults form lasting friendships as well as receive valuable education from seasoned educators as well as Parent-Only Sessions to talk over the extra set of challenges that accompany raising elementary, tween and teen children. Parent and Child classes include Expectant and New Parents, Non-Separating Toddlers, Two-Year Olds, Parenting 3 – 4s, and Family Class. Parents with school-aged children attend Parent-Only Sessions. Classes include Parents of Elementary Kids, Parents of Tweens, Parents of High Schoolers, Parenting Your Exceptional Child, Art of Fatherhood, and the new Grandparenting Class. Classes meet weekly September through May and attract over 600 participants from 22 different cities. Please go to www.lacanadapc.org/parented for class listings, staff bios, and online registration. Volunteer Board Members who fundraise and host special events for Parent Education are: Debbie Barsom (La Canada), Betty Bredemann (La Canada), Katie Enney (Altadena), Stephanie Ferguson (Pasadena), Adriana Leaw (La Canada), Maggie Mason (Glendale), Charlotte Miller (Santa Clarita), Monica Skeehan (Glendale), Cathy Steward (La Canada), and Barbara Stratte (Glendale).

Ministry Support Team Members are all former board members who serve as an advisory council: Melanie Frey (La Cañada), Lynne Graves (La Cañada), Katrina Harbers (La Crescenta), Kathy Kovalcik (La Cañada), Maggie Mason (Glendale), and Mikki Weightman (La Cañada). The Elder Liaison who represents Parent Education on the LCPC Session is Lynne Graves (La Cañada).
