A Pasadena-Based Nonprofit Offers Gift Cards with the Power of Giving

A Pasadena-based nonprofit is offering a different kind of gift card for those looking to give their friends something meaningful during the holidays – cards which it says allow them to give to their favorite charities with as much ease as clicking a mouse and a few strokes on the keyboard, instead of buying things they may not actually need.

With the gift cards, made of 100 percent biodegradable plastic, recipients can just go online, choose the charity they care about most from hundreds listed on the nonprofit’s website, and then click a button that instructs the nonprofit to forward the amount on the card to the charity they chose, the nonprofit said.

The nonprofit is Charity on Top, with offices at 177 E. Colorado Blvd. #200 in Pasadena, which said it sells fully tax-deductible cards to those looking for a very unique and personal holiday gift card, especially for those hard-to-shop-for family members or friends and people who actually don’t need “more stuff.”

Charity on Top, a 501(c)3 non-profit, has customized cards for major holiday occasions — Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year’s Day, birthdays, weddings and lots more.

The purchaser can also choose to customize the gift card with his or her own photos or graphics, including company logos. When they get the cards, recipients can just go online, choose from more than 1.8 million charities from throughout the United States, and “redeem” the cards; the chosen charity then receives the donated funds.

“Charity On Top cards are the perfect way to give gifts with real meaning and express the holiday spirit of giving,” Kathy Selders, board president of Charity on Top Foundation, said. “The giver recognizes that a charity gift card is incredibly personal, and will help make the world a better place by allowing the recipient to choose the cause they are passionate about.”

Charity on Top gift cards can be purchased for any denomination starting at just $5, which is fully tax-deductible to the buyer. Charities receive the face value of the original gift card less a nominal 3.75 percent to cover credit card processing and administrative fees, although the majority of buyers choose to cover this fee at checkout, so 100 percent goes to the charity.

Gift cards can be purchased in any quantity, making them great for companies to give to clients, vendors or employees.

“This #GivingTuesday, complete your holiday shopping with a charity gift card that let’s your recipient make a positive and meaningful impact on the cause that matters most to them,” Charity on Top suggests on their website.

Charity on Top was co-founded by Pasadena residents Marchelle Sellers and Kathy Selders, two friends who said they worked in the nonprofit field for over twenty years and understand how hard charities work to raise necessary funds.

Understanding that people often support causes because of a personal connection, Sellers and Selders created Charity on Top as a unique and personal way for people to pay it forward and give the gift of charity.

Charity on Top calls their cards “the sweeter way to gift” for any occasion.
