Advisory: Major Injury Traffic Collision in South Pasadena

Published on Friday, August 26, 2016 | 1:55 pm

On Friday, August 26, 2016, at 5:44 a.m., officers from the South Pasadena Police Department responded to a traffic collision in the 400 block of Fair Oaks Avenue. It was reported a bicyclist collided with a legally parked commercial truck. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes of the first call and immediately provided emergency medical care until paramedics could takeover. The bicyclist, a 74-year-old male from Bell Gardens, was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital in critical condition. No other parties sustained injuries as a result of the collision.

The preliminary investigation at the scene revealed the bicyclist was traveling northbound on Fair Oaks Avenue with his head down, looking at the roadway. It appears the bicyclist did not see the parked truck in front of him, and struck the rear corner with his head. The bicyclist was wearing a protective helmet; however, the impact was significant enough to puncture and crack the helmet. At this time, it does not appear there were other factors that contributed to this collision.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Officer Holland at the South Pasadena Police Department at (626) 403-7270.
