After Weeks of Holiday Cancellations, Pasadena City Council Meets Monday

The Pasadena City Council is scheduled to meet Monday after several weeks of cancellations because of the holidays, lining up several items on the agenda including consideration in a public hearing of the proposal to adjust the Water Improvement Charge (CIC) that Pasadena Water and Power collects.

The public hearing could pave the way for the City Council to approve the proposed adjustment, which will in turn result in an estimated 10 to 11 percent increase in the system average monthly water rate for most of Pasadena’s customers.

PWP says the increase is necessary to provide enough revenue “to maintain the City’s investment in its water delivery infrastructure.”

The public hearing starts at 7 p.m.

Before that, some of the major items in the City Council agenda will be discussed, including the approval of a $885,000 contract for citywide sidewalk improvements to Vart Construction Inc., approval of a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 777, and approval of the Finance Committee’s recommendation to appropriate the Human Services and Recreation Department’s operating budget for 2016 amounting to $335,733.

The council will also discuss recommendations for the search process for City Manager Michael J. Beck’s replacement during the closed session. Beck has indicated he will resign in February to start a new assignment with UCLA.

The public meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

The City Council meets at the Council Chamber, Room S249 at City Hall, 100 N Garfield Avenue in Pasadena.
