A 27-year-old Altadena man stabbed repeatedly Saturday night by three men who attacked him after he denied that he was affiliated with any local gang.

Police said the man was transported by paramedics to a local hospital in serious condition.

Lt. Pete Hettema said the trouble began at 10:10 p.m. when the victim, who had parked his car on Morton Avenue near Hammond Street, was approached by three Hispanic men in a dark SUV, possibly a Chevy Tahoe.

The trio asked the victim “what gang he was from” but he replied he was not a gang member, Hettema said.

“The three suspects then jumped the victim and stabbed him multiple times in the back,” Hettema said.

The victim managed to get back into his car and escaped by driving south on Morton Avenue.

Hettema said the victim’s condition as of Sundar mid-morning is not known. Officers had believed the stabbing was non-life threatening.

The suspects remain at large.

Detectives and the gang unit will investigate the incident.
