American Bar Association Re-Approves Pasadena City College Paralegal Studies Program

The American Bar Association has granted re-approval to the Pasadena City College Paralegal Studies Program.

ABA approval is an intensive process that evaluates the quality of the paralegal program, and only accepts those that meet specific standards consistent with ABA-approved guidelines. Since 1995, the PCC Paralegal Studies Program has met those defined and demanding standards for ABA approval.

In order to obtain or retain approval by the ABA, a program of education of paralegals must demonstrate that its program is consistent with sound educational policies by establishing that it operates in accordance with guidelines.

Schools that successfully complete the ABA approval process have shown a definite commitment to their program through research, assessments, meeting with the stakeholders, completing the application process, covering expenses for site evaluation teams and paying application, processing, renewal, and other fees. This is a considerable investment and many students have greater confidence in their education when they know that they are not the only ones investing in it.

Although having an ABA-approved education is not absolutely necessary, students should be aware that many employers see completion of an ABA-approved program as a plus, as do some paralegal professional associations when qualifying candidates for certification.

About PCC’s Paralegal Program

Pasadena City College Paralegal Studies program started in 1973 and has been continuously ABA-approved since 1995. Students in the Program work towards a Certificate of Achievement or an Associate in Science degree with flexible scheduling for day and evening (with a Certificate of Achievement is awarded upon completion of all required Paralegal Studies core courses).

The paralegal curriculum and legal coursework is designed to provide students with paralegal skills that are most in demand by employers such as comprehensive understanding of law, practical skills and technical proficiency needed to compete in today’s legal environment, combining a solid background in liberal arts with a range of legal specialty courses.

PCC’s faculty is comprised of local attorneys and paralegals who bring to the classroom a wealth of experience and talent. The program is designed to provide a high-quality, academically-robust learning environment that encourages, supports, and facilitates student learning and success by educating students to complete paralegal tasks, to cope with case management, and to understand client relationships.
