The American Cancer Society hosted the San Gabriel Valley Hope Gala, a premiere fundraising event in the fight against cancer on Saturday, September 16. Founded in 2010, this event has raised over a half a million dollars to benefit cancer survivors and patients as well as ongoing research and advancement. Funds from the Gala help support the American Cancer Society to continue to save lives, celebrate lives and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

This year’s honorees were Yuman Fong, MD and Lena L. Kennedy.

Dr. Fong is best known clinically for his extensive work in the field of liver and pancreatic surgery––especially for pioneering many laparoscopic, robotic and ablative therapies for these cancers. He has assisted in the design and deployment of many novel surgical tools. He is currently on the Medical Engineering faculty at the California Institute of Technology.

Ms Kennedy is the founder and conference director of the So Cal Women’s Health Conference & Expo. She is responsible for bringing together community-based organizations, businesses, and civic leaders to offer a free, annual health and wellness conference for women. Since 2000, over 30,000 attendees have been empowered by informative and practical lectures and workshops on health, wellness and lifestyle led by renowned physicians and healthcare professionals.
