American Legacy Fine Arts explores the philosophy of “unconscious reasoning” with Intuition: A Focus on Women Artists, a group exhibition showcasing the works of five revered artists, on view at the private gallery in Pasadena from May 7 to 28, 2016.

A reception with the participating artists – sculptor Alicia N. Ponzio and painters Jean LeGassick, Jennifer Moses, Teresa Oaxaca and Amy Sidrane – will be held on the opening day of the exhibition from 4 to 6 p.m. Prior to the reception, LeGassick, one of the nation’s most prominent female plein air painters, will give an artist talk on her work from 2 to 4 p.m.

The nature of intuition – and its power – has inspired discussions since ancient times. Often associated with enhanced aesthetic and creative potential, this instinctive ability is generally considered a more feminine trait in Western society.

“With Intuition: A Focus on Women Artists, American Legacy Fine Arts reveals how this heightened and developed sensitivity based on life experiences cultivates the artistic process,” says Elaine Adams, the gallery director. “By spotlighting five nationally renowned women artists, we can examine how they rely on their intuition to initiate a visual dialogue with the viewer, as they convey spontaneous moments of inspiration gained by observing nature and humanity with empathy and keen insight.”

In discussing how intuition informs her work, participating artist Sidrane adds, “Visual art through painting reveals characteristics of my deeper nature. Consequently, my paintings say what my words can not.”

American Legacy Fine Arts is located in the tranquil Pasadena neighborhood near the world-famous Rose Bowl. Gallery hours are by appointment 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
