Arcadia Police Manhunt Shuts Down Busy Pasadena Neighborhood near PCC

Arcadia and Pasadena Police vehicles filled PCC Parking Lot 5 during the January 10, 2017 search.

Arcadia police shut down a busy Pasadena neighborhood near Pasadena City College shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday searching for a felony grand theft suspect they had pursued from south west Arcadia.

The search area ran the length of South Bonnie Avenue from Colorado Boulevard south to Del Mar Boulevard and blocked access to PCC parking lots. Classes continued, however.

Pasadena and PCC campus police and a Pasadena helicopter assisted the Arcadia search.

Ultimately, the suspect could not be located. He was described only as being a man in his 40’s. Contrary to some reports during the search, the suspect is not reported to have been seen armed with a gun.

Additional subjects were detained in the area, but were later determined to be uninvolved and were released.

The stolen package was recovered along with several other packages that appear to have been stolen.

Arcadia police said the stolen package was a so-called bait package, equipped with a GPS tracking device, which automatically notified police personnel at 4:40 p.m. that it had been stolen.

Officers tracked the package inside a vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and fled from officers.

Officers continued to track the package and vehicle until it stopped in 00 block of South Bonnie Avenue, just below Colorado Boulevard. One man fled from the vehicle, and officers immediately set up a perimeter and began to search for him.

The search was finally called off about 6:45 p.m.

This incident is being investigated by Arcadia Police Department Detectives. Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5151, case #17-0168.
