A wild police chase which started in Arcadia ended with two burglary suspects crashing their getaway car then bailing out on the 210 Freeway in Pasadena before fleeing onto area streets Tuesday afternoon, snarling traffic and briefly locking down a Pasadena neighborhood.

Pasadena patrol officers and a Pasadena helicopter joined the hunt and one suspect was arrested, Arcadia police said in a statement. There were no reported injuries.

The pursuit began at about 11:24 a.m. when Arcadia police responded to the 2000 block of Carolwood Drive after the report of a residential burglary in progress.

As officers responded, a suspicious vehicle was seen fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit unfolded, according to Arcadia Police Lieutenant Vaughn Whalen.

During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle struck two innocent bystander vehicles. The suspects entered the westbound 210 Freeway, abandoned their vehicle on the freeway in Pasadena, and fled on foot over a retaining wall, authorities said.

“With the assistance of Pasadena PD patrol officers and their helicopter, one suspect was apprehended and the other suspect was not,” Whalen said.

The suspect was arrested near Pasadena Fire Station 32 on Villa Avenue near Altadena Drive at 12:25 p.m., authorities reported.

The arrested suspect was identified as Hassan Deontrae Murphy, 18 years old from Los Angeles.

Murphy is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is due in court on Thursday.
