The Pasadena Chapter of the Armenian National Committee of America, known as ANCA, announced its endorsement of incumbent Councilmember Steve Madison in his bid for reelection to the City Council District 6 seat in the 2020 Primary Election.

ANCA Pasadena said it supported Madison’s candidacy based on his vision and plan for Pasadena’s District 6 and for his support of the Armenian American community.

“Councilmember Madison has an understanding of the issues that concern the Armenian American community in his district and the City of Pasadena overall, as well as the awareness and insight on how to improve on those issues,” ANCA Pasadena Chapter Chairperson Shoghig Yepremian said.

The ANCA, Pasadena announcement pointed to Madison’s 2013 vote to approve the Armenian Genocide Memorial at Pasadena’s Memorial Park.

Madison is quoted as having said he was honored to receive the endorsement.

“Pasadena is proud to have a vibrant, active and important Armenian- American community and with our sister city in Armenia, Vanadzor, as well, issues of importance to the Armenian-American community are very important to me and the City of Pasadena,” he is reported as saying. “I intend to work very hard in my campaign to deserve the support of my friends at ANCA’s Pasadena Chapter. Thank you!”

Madison was first elected in 1999 to represent District 6, and was reelected in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

He faces newcomers Tamerlin Godley and Ryan Bell in the March 3, 2020 elections.
