[Updated]  A Pasadena man was charged Monday with murder and four other felonies in connection with the fatal hit-and-run death of 60-year-old Pasadena resident Gary Oscar Chavez on October 6, 2016.

Police said Chavez was riding his motorcycle on Washington Boulevard near North Marengo Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. when a gray 2015 Tesla speeding northbound at a high rate of speed along Marengo slammed into him, killing him.

Witnesses reported that an occupant of the Tesla was assisted from the vehicle and driven away from the scene, police said.

The Pasadena Police Department Traffic Bureau’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) led the investigation into the collision. Police soon learned that the Tesla had stolen from the 1000 block of Armada Drive.

Ultimately, on June 21 traffic investigators arrested Pasadena resident Donte Antoine Fox, 22.

Los Angeles County District Attorney spokesman William Santiago said that Fox was charged Monday with one count each of murder, vehicular manslaughter in the operation of a vessel, hit-and-run driving resulting in death, grand theft of an automobile and driving or taking a vehicle without consent.

Arraignment was scheduled for Monday afternoon in Pasadena.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have additional information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the Pasadena Police Department’s Traffic Bureau, Sergeant Dennis Beene, at (626)744-4343 or the Watch Commander at (626)744-4620.
