It’s Spring Graduation Week this week at Pasadena’s ArtCenter College of Design, and the College is positively buzzing with activity every day through Saturday’s Graduation ceremonies.
Since employers look for new talent all year round, ArtCenter holds not only a Spring graduation, but also a Summer and a Fall Graduation Ceremony.
“It’s part of ArtCenter’s longstanding ties to industry,” the College says on its website.
Graduation Week unofficially begins the week before finals with Late Night Breakfast. That’s when staff from the Center for Student Experience serve a late night buffet of pancakes, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and more to students, giving them the extra boost they’ll need as they go into finals.
This Thursday, April 19, ArtCenter rolls out its Recruitment Open House, inviting select employers from top companies and studios to visit both campuses. At the event, graduating students network with industry professionals and discuss current or potential job openings.
Thursday night, also known as “Industry Night,” will see the ArtCenter Grad Show, a casual open house style event at both campuses. Open to alumni, industry partners and people from across Greater Los Angeles, the event offers guests a chance to meet ArtCenter graduates and see the ideas, concepts and projects created by the next generation of artists and designers.
At Saturday morning’s Graduation Ceremony, marking the last day of Spring classes, educational leaders from the College confer degrees upon the graduating students. Aside from speeches by the Student Leadership Award winner and class Valedictorian, a notable artist or designed, a celebrated faculty member or distinguished alumnus typically offers a graduation address. The Graduation Ceremony is streamed live online through ArtCenter’s website, as well as Facebook and YouTube.
In a Saturday afternoon Grad Show Encore, friends and family of the graduates and the general public are offered a second chance to visit both campuses and view the graduates’ work at a more leisurely pace.
ArtCenter’s summer term begins with a New Student Orientation on May 8 to 11, and classes begin on May 12. Summer graduation is on Saturday, August 18.
