Autism Workshop Featured Author Monica Holloway

Monica Holloway provided a talk on autism and book signing during the Children’s Literature Council of Southern California’s Spring Workshop

Addressing the challenge of literacy for children with special needs, autism memoir author Monica Holloway offered a presentation on autism and acted as a workshop facilitator during the ‘Serving Children with Autism: Literature, Libraries and Learning’ workshop presented by Children’s Literature Council of Southern California, last Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Frostig Center, located at 971 North Altadena Drive in Pasadena.

Holloway, author of Cowboy & Wills, which shares the story of the golden retriever puppy that changed the life of her son with autism, offered a book signing and assisted in facilitating the workshop, in addition to her speaking presentation on her experiences with autism and her memoir. A strong advocate for literacy, Holloway is a National Center for Family Literacy Advisory Board Member.

The event, geared towards teachers and librarians, hosted two primary presenters;

• Dr. Ricki Robinson- Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, USC Keck School of Medicine; Co-Director, La Canada Descanso Medical Center for Development and Learning; and author of Autism Solutions: How To Create a Healthy and Meaningful Life For Your Child.

• Barbara Clipper – Youth Services Librarian, The Ferguson Library in Stamford CT, creator of the library’s Special Needs Center.
